The Big Swap

For this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight we’re asking the nation to join us in The Big Swap. For two whole weeks we’ll be asking you to swap your usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff. Your usual bananas for Fairtrade bananas, your usual cotton socks for Fairtrade cotton socks, and your usual cuppa for a Fairtrade cuppa. This means that every time you go shopping, you can use your wallet to make a stand. www.thebigswap.org.uk is the home of all things swap, a hub for all your swapping needs. It tells you how to get involved, what you can swap and most importantly, how to register them. Because we need lots of swaps made. One million and one in fact. Every swap will be proof that the people of the UK want producers in the developing world to get a fairer deal.

I don’t support “Fair Trade” i support “Free trade”.

People should be free to work and sell there products at a price they choose to whoever wishes to buy from them.
Who are you to say that the product cannot be sold at this price to whom…

  • wearechangeherts:

Yes i know i am going to get red arrowed, but perhaps its due to people not wanting to think about the problem.

Yes 2 billion people working for a dollar a day is terrible, you will never fix it with “Fair trade”

Lets have an actual debate and the pros and cons and then realize that “fair trade” is trying to do good in a corrupted system.

Decentralize and let the people be self sustaining.

  • frankovan:

It’s amazing how simple it’s been – bananas, then tea, then chocolate….. just one small step at a time … every little helps :)

  • Fight4Privacy:

You got that right, it seems to me that Fair Trade just covers up the symptoms of a much bigger problem. Much like putting a tissue on a decapitated limb.

  • sharedinterest:

Love the video. We’re really looking forward to taking part in big swap.

  • 76Freeman:

We won’t fix it with Fair Trade then how will we fix it? There will be always corruption it’s in man nature and there will be always people trying to fight it and this is also in man nature.
So until we have a better solution I do believe Fair Trade can do a difference.

  • 76Freeman:

So you think this is the solution, Free Trade. And then you’ll have products from China made by 5 years old kids paid not even $2.00 a day and you’ll end up even worse then what we are now. You’ll always have people trying to take advantage of others and Fair Trade tries to avoid it. Fair Trade is like a way of life, it’s a principle.

Love the animation. Love the tone of voice. Love the fact that it shows people care (whether others think it works or not).

  • akinsmith:

Really great video, the website is a little confusing to start. But I love the simplicity of the video.

This is a journey, and Fair Trade and Free Trade both have their part to play, as long as we are moving towards a world of true equality and freedom I’m going to activity understand and support both as appropriate to the company and situation I am in.

    Great Video
It is so simple how we can help the poor lives of people just by choosing something different.

It only takes a minute or so to chose the right fair-trade product.

Help others lives and leave the shop with a better heart and soul.

  • Lotto15719:

Great Video. Shows thats over a third of the people in this would live on £2 a day, for a family of 5! I’ve already started. I’ve swapped my chocolate!
